What is the difference between a cream and a balm?
A balm is made from fatty substances: oils, butters, vegetable waxes, etc. This mixture hardens but melts on contact with the skin. A balm has a more oily consistency than a cream, which is made of water and oils. Two phases are needed to create it, whereas a balm is made in only one phase!
